Colin Talbot and Kieran Walshe have extensive experience of providing evidence and advice to select committees in parliament. Between them they have advised the Health, Public Administration, and Treasury Select Committees.
This workshop will explore their experience of engaging and how this can be used to help you if you are interested in starting engagements or developing your existing links with parliament.
We are very excited that Dr Stephen McGinness, Clerk to the Science and Technology Committee in parliament, will also be present to provide information on working with select committees and parliamentary processes from an insiders point of view.
The workshop will cover:
How to get into select committee enquiries. Watching out for relevant enquiries. Researching past Committee reports. NAO reports and NAO contacts. The Scrutiny Unit. House Library.
Informal contacts with Committee staff. Off the record briefings. How to submit formal evidence. Giving oral evidence.
How to make the most of engagement with a Committee. Media outlets. Commenting on Reports. Coping with disengagement.
Maintaining contacts. Sending information of interest to Committee staff, especially research outputs.
