Meet the team at Policy@Manchester.

  • Professor Diane Coyle

    Diane is one of our Co-Directors, Professor of Economics at The University of Manchester, member of the Natural Capital Committee and Office for National Statistics Fellow. She was also previously Vice-Chair of the BBC Trust, advisor to HM Treasury, member of the Migration Advisory Committee and member of the Competition Commission.

  • Professor Andy Westwood

    As well as being one of our Co-Directors, Andy is Associate Vice President for Public Affairs at The University of Manchester, President for the OECD’s Forum for Social Innovation, adviser at the IMF, professor of further and higher education and Director of the University of Wolverhampton’s Observatory. Andy has a long track record of working in think tanks and in government - at the DFES, HM Treasury, DIUS and DCLG.

  • Alex Waddington

    Our Head of Communications and Engagement, Alex has been with Policy@Manchester since 2013 - helping develop it from a small pilot project to a multiple award-winning unit. Alex has significant experience in communications, marketing and public relations, gained during a 10-year career in Higher Education. A journalist by training, before coming to Manchester he worked as a Press Officer with Greater Manchester Police.

  • Alexis Darby

    Alexis is our Senior Communications and Engagement Officer. She has several years’ experience of working in PR and Public Affairs where she devised and implemented integrated media and political engagement strategies for third sector organisations, international brands and publically listed companies. Prior to this Alexis worked for the Labour Party, an MEP and MPs in the House of Commons.

  • Jess Lishak

    Jess is one of our Communications and Engagement Officers; she comes from a campaigning background and has worked on many public and policy orientated projects around equalities, higher education policy and sexual violence. She enjoys working with academics to plan and implement policy influencing and is particularly interested in social sciences, law and human rights.

  • Craig Whittall

    Craig joined the team as a Communications and Engagement Officer from the Association of Liberal Democrat Campaigners and Councillors, having worked for three MPs, project-managed for the Local Government Association and worked for the Department for Work and Pensions. Craig is also studying part-time for his PhD in Political Theory on political exclusion in colonial India and pre-Apartheid South Africa.

  • Laura Jack

    Our Administrative Assistant, Laura, is an experienced administrator who supports the Policy@Manchester team. After starting her career in local government working with local Councillors and assisting with their casework she moved to the HE sector in 2014. Since then she has been involved in the organisation of a wide range of events, from business breakfasts to international conferences.
