*EVENT CANCELLED* Assessing breast cancer risk in young women

Unfortunately it has become necessary to cancel this event. Registration has closed and it will no longer be taking place as planned. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK, with around 55,000 new cases nationally and 3,000 new cases in Greater Manchester each year. Despite breast cancer being the leading cause of death for women aged 35–50 in the UK, there is currently no systematic mechanism to identify women at increased risk who do not have a family history of the disease. Reaching these women represents a major unmet need as they could benefit from earlier screening and preventive strategies.

Launched in May 2023, the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment in Younger Women (BCAN‑RAY) study has evaluated a comprehensive risk‑assessment strategy for women aged 30–39. Join us on Wednesday, 25 February to hear insights from the study which was undertaken in Greater Manchester. The session will explore findings from the trial including the psychological impact of participating, acceptability of the risk assessment strategy and uptake of screening and preventive strategies among those identified as increased risk. It will also consider the wider implications of the findings for the organisation of breast screening and prevention services, and how evidence from this study could be applied more broadly.
