Sharing expertise

At The University of Manchester, there are over 6,000 academic and research staff looking into issues ranging from microplastics to nuclear energy, mental health to social inclusion and antibiotic resistance to advanced cancer treatments.

We are always looking for opportunities to connect our researchers with our local, national and international audiences, with a view to nurturing long-term policy engagement relationships. Below are some examples of the ways we share academic expertise.

Get in touch and we can happily suggest individuals for an informal discussion, roundtable, panel discussion or a formal evidence submission.

Roundtables

We can arrange for experts from the University to join roundtable discussions with policy and public audiences. Our team can suggest invitees and host events, including arrangements for venue, catering, and invitees, and the University campus offers a perfect venue.

We have previously organised roundtable discussions bring together academics, civil servants, and officers from local, regional, and national government, along with stakeholders from industry and the third sector.

Panel events

At Policy@Manchester we have a wealth of experience in organising panel events both within the University and externally. We work with businesses, universities and policymakers to share the benefits of our expertise with society and industry. Our panels are a platform for genuine debate, and through access to such high-quality research, we can successfully influence and challenge policy.

Informal conversations

We are happy to facilitate and organise informal conversations with academics, for you to explore initial areas of interest beyond formal consultations or calls for evidence, and allowing for a bespoke and speculative approach.

If this is something you would like to find out more about please contact us.

Evidence submissions

We can help if you’re looking for world-class research to feed into an inquiry, consultation or call for evidence. Along with finding the best academics to respond, we also support them to translate their research findings into submissions that answer the questions you’re asking.

A big part of our work is to review open consultations and select committee inquiries, and ultimately to find researchers who can respond.
